I sit looking out my window at about 4 inches of snow that has accumulated from last night. Normally in Wisconsin this would not be very unreasonable for the first week in April. But this spring we were blessed with an early thaw, bright sunny skies and well above average temperatures. I am on a recored pace for fishing trips already! I have had my boat out 6 times already, a few of those days wearing only a tshirt even on seamingly always chilly Lake Michigan. Now im looking at the fresh blanket of powder, only to wonder how far away I buried the ice auger and my tipups.

It's a far cry from windy, but still unseasonably warm conditions I enjoyed(well not the wind) to get out on the big pond monday and find 4 willing brown trout to entertain me for a few hours. Before I get too criticial of those stiff breezes, I should remember how they helped to set up a wall of dirty water from which these fiesty fish were pulled.

Ok so maybe the thoughts of tipups were a bit hasty, but it sure was an eye opener. By the weekend, it will be gone, and I for one will be back on the open water. This time, with a little better appreciation for the years first sunburn, and the light peeling of skin already working its way off of my rosey red nose.
